The cottage is very peacefully situated at the end of a row of terraced cottages behind those actually on South Street - so there is almost no traffic noise. It faces south-east towards the sea.
From the living-room, front bedroom and garden there is a panoramic uninterrupted sea view over the Channel. The terrace enjoys sunshine from early morning until late afternoon.
There is on-street parking on South Street and other nearby streets or in the public car parks at Wheeler's Bay Road or the High Street (3-4 mins walk).
The cottage is very well equipped and is decorated to a high standard throughout.
The main Ventnor shops are about five minutes’ walk away, and there are two convenience stores close by. Fresh fish is on sale daily at the harbour.
Ventnor has an excellent selection of interesting cafés, pubs and restaurants, again within walking distance. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to Ventnor beach and about the same time to Bonchurch beach: from both there is good and safe bathing (Ventnor beach consistently receives a Blue Flag award).
There are delightful walks from Ventnor and through the wooded landslip to Shanklin, along the cliffs towards Steephill Cove and St Catherine’s Point, and up to St Boniface Down (the highest point on the Island, which shelters Ventnor from cold northerly winds).
Ventnor is well served by buses to all parts of the Island: there are regular bus services from Ryde Esplanade rail station and Shanklin rail station which stop close to the cottage (ask for Ventnor Library), making it very easy to travel by train and bus if preferred.
Front bedroom: double bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and desk. A hair dryer is supplied.
Rear bedroom: three beds (bunk beds and single), wardrobe and drawers. This room also has a travel cot.
Bathroom: bath (with electric shower), washbasin, toilet. Note that access to the bathroom is via the rear bedroom. There is no shaver socket, but a 2-pin adaptor is provided in the front bedroom for connection to any 3-pin socket.
Kitchen: electric cooker, microwave oven, automatic washer/dryer, toaster, kettle, plenty of crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils.
Dining room: table (seats six comfortably), fridge with small freezer compartment and storage space for food in one of the cupboards under the stairs. An iron and ironing board are supplied, also a high chair and booster seat.
Living room: double sofa-bed, two armchairs, table and chairs, coffee table, drawers, radio/CD player, satellite television, DVD player.
A French window leads to a patio terrace, which is fenced in.
The small secluded lower garden (easy access from the terrace via a gated metal staircase) has a garden seat and rotary clothes dryer. Safety note: Although this area is securely fenced in, children must be supervised at all times, since beyond the fence there is a steep drop. A garden table, parasol and chairs are provided for use outside.
Comfort: The house is double-glazed and is carpeted throughout. Wi-fi and an ethernet connection is available.
Safety:We must draw your attention to the fact that with this being a Victorian cottage, the stairs are quite steep and not ideal for the very elderly or the infirm, although there is a secure handrail. Two safety gates for children are provided for the stairs.
Heating: There are electric radiators downstairs and wall convector heaters in the bedrooms; the bathroom has a wall fan heater. The water is heated by an immersion heater in the bathroom, which is connected to a timeswitch and may be set as required. An air-cooling fan is also provided.
Other equipment provided: duvets, pillows, tea towels, hot water bottles, and a good selection of board games, cards, books, etc.
Note: All bed linen (except for the cot) is provided, and one towel per guest (for use in the cottage only - you will need to provide your own beach towels).
Note that you cannot see the property on Google Street View since it is set behind the houses on South Street (access between No. 66 and No. 56):
